At Brent Gould Field on Friday night, the Bee Jays had yet another difficult sixth inning. This time, the Bee Jays were forced to leave early before their next game against the difficult Riders this evening after a difficult seventh. In game two of this four-game homestand, the Rough Riders defeat the Bee Jays 13-2.Both teams got off to a poor start, much like in their first meeting on Thursday night. In contrast to Thursday, though, the Bee Jays would score the opening run in game two, scoring two runs in the second to lead 2-0 going into the third. In the second, a mishandled JT Cox chopper with two out sent everyone racing, and Jack Ryan and Carson Willis would both score on a Rough Rider mistake.
In the top of the third, Jake Willerup would double with two RBI to give the Rough Riders their own two runs. Josh Reed, the starting pitcher for the Bee Jays, had a fantastic game, with the two and a half runs in the fifth being the only negative aspects.Reed struck out eight Rough Riders in five full innings, gave up the two runs, and had four walks and one hit batter before the game was over. Before beginning the fifth inning, he had already recorded eight strikeouts, including five in the opening two innings. Out of the first nine hitters he faced, he struck out five.
The sixth inning remained the same this time. The Rough Riders would bat through the lineup before a double play by Landon Bruce ended the rally, leaving the Bee Jays defense once more exposed as they utilized two pitchers to surrender five runs. When the Rough Riders scored five more runs in the seventh, the rally would continue. The Bee Jays would go three-up, three-down in the bottom of the seventh inning with the score at 13-2, but they would be unable to avoid the run rule.
The Bee Jays are now 5-5 in the league and 6-5 overall. Before the weekend is done, they will play the Rough Riders twice more. Tonight at 7 p.m., they will play the Rough Riders again, and on Sunday at 1:30 p.m., they will have another chance to level the series. On the Home of Bee Jay Baseball, KSCB 1270 AM, Brock Kappelmann, the Voice of Bee Jay Baseball, will provide you with all the coverage as they attempt to win the next two games to tie the series.
