Along portions of U.S. 56 and K-25, the Kansas Department of Transportation has initiated a number of highway resurfacing projects. U.S. 56/South Main Street from the K-51 intersection in Hugoton north to the K-25 intersection, and K-25 from the U.S. 56 intersection north to the southern city limits of Ulysses, are among the project locations.
While work is being done on the 29-mile project area, U.S. 56 and K-25 are being reduced to one lane in smaller portions. Due to flaggers and a pilot car directing one-lane traffic through the work zone, drivers may experience delays of up to fifteen minutes. Cones and placards are used to indicate the lane reduction. When construction is not underway, highways will be accessible to regular traffic.
The contractor for this $6.1 million project is Venture Corporation of Great Bend. If all goes according to plan, it should be finished by the end of September.
