Dodge City Finally Beats Bee Jays

In recent years, the Dodge City A’s have been dominated by the Liberal Bee Jays. Liberal has defeated their rivals from southwest Kansas ten times in a row. Against Dodge City, the Bee Jays had one 26 in their previous 28 games. But it was Dodge City’s night on Saturday. The Bee Jays were defeated 10–7 by the Dodge City A’s. Walks was the B.J. culprit. Bee Jay pitched a tenth walk.

The A’s took an early 3-0 lead with two goals in the first and one in the third. In the fourth, Liberal scored two goals. However, the A’s took an 8-2 lead after breaking the game open with five in the fourth. To make it 8-5, the B.J.s made a late comeback with a one in the fifth and two in the seventh. Dodge took a 10-5 lead after scoring one in the seventh and another in the eighth. In the seventh, Liberal scored two goals. It was Liberal’s first defeat at Dodge City since July 17, 2023, when they lost 11–10.

Despite outhitting Dodge City 10–4, Liberal lost. One mistake was made by both teams. Walks caused Liberal to lose. Dodge walked four and the Bee Jays walked ten.

Drew Grego, the Epic Touch Player of the Game, had a strong night, going 3-5 with two home runs, five RBIs, and one double, but the Bee Jays still lost. With two strikeouts and no walks, Kyle Hawkworth pitched two scoreless innings.

Dodge City is 9-8 in the Rocky Mountains and 11-15 overall. Liberal is 9-10 in the Rocky Mountains and 11-10 overall. To conclude the regular season, the Liberal game scheduled for Sunday night was postponed until July 20 due to inclement weather.
