Safe Haven Baby Box to be Installed in Garden City

Published On:

The police department said Friday that Garden City will host the installation of the first Safe Haven Baby Box in western Kansas.

When a parent wishes to turn in their infant, they can do so by leaving the baby in a temperature-controlled deposit box, usually found in a firehouse.

In 2016, Woodburn, Indiana, saw the installation of the first Safe Haven Baby Box. In the state, this will be the third Safe Haven Baby Box. Salina was installed shortly after the first in Hutchinson in 2024.

The Garden City baby box will be situated at 3535 Schulman Ave., Fire Station 3. On July 30 at 5 p.m., there will be a dedication for the new box. Everyone is welcome to come.

According to the Garden City Fire Department, this is the first Safe Haven Baby Box in Western Kansas, offering parents who might be experiencing a crisis a safe, private, and caring alternative. By working together, we are making a significant contribution to safeguarding the most vulnerable and providing hope when it is most needed.
