Residents and guests are invited to the City of Liberal’s ribbon-cutting celebration for the brand-new Dorothy’s Slipper Slide attraction. The event will take place at the Tourist Information Center, located at 1 Yellow Brick Road, on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.
The 10-foot-tall Dorothy’s Slipper Slide, which will be situated outside the Liberal Tourist Information Center, is fashioned after Dorothy Gale’s well-known ruby red slippers. The slide helps attract people along the Highway 54 corridor to the Coronado Museum, Dorothy’s House & the Land of Oz, and the Visitor Information Center by offering an interactive roadside attraction experience. The size of the slide accommodates both adult and child users and offers guests an excellent opportunity for photos.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony, on-site activities, prize drawings, and food will all be available to event guests. In addition to a visit from canines up for adoption at the Liberal Animal Shelter, there will be live performances by the Dance Program of the Liberal Recreation Department. Before the evening concludes with a complimentary outdoor film screening at the museum following sunset, guests are invited to see Dorothy’s House and the Coronado Museum.
The Dorothy’s Slipper Slide project was partially financed by local transitory visitor taxes and Kansas Tourism’s Attraction Development Grant.
