Guymon Fire Department Releases July 4th Weekend Activity

Published On:

Beginning on Friday, July 4th, the Guymon Fire Department had a busy three-day weekend. Guymon Firefighters were called to six trash fires, all of which were caused by irresponsible pyrotechnics disposal. One of the two grass fires, which burned less than an acre, was caused by pyrotechnics. A lightning strike caused the second grass fire, which burned around 25 acres on Saturday night northeast of Guymon. According to Fire Chief Grant Wadley, Guymon Paramedics handled around 20 medical calls during that time, with no reports of fireworks-related injuries.

Chief Wadley contacted the Texas County Emergency Department’s Memorial Hospital, which stated that two fireworks-related injuries were attended to there.

In 2025, recorded grass fires and acreages burned significantly decreased, but dumpster fires increased relative to previous years. According to Chief Wadley, the area’s recent precipitation and rains were the primary cause of the decline in grass fires.
