Hooker is different now. Additionally, there is a lot of continuity. After eight years at Hooker High, Trevor Powers went 80-23 before leaving for Liberal. The Bulldogs also graduated a stellar senior class which paved the way for back to back state championship games.
However, Hooker’s cupboard was full of recognizable yet youthful faces. After serving as HHS’s assistant coach for three years, Tanner McBee takes over as head coach. In 2019, he received his degree from Hooker. He amassed 3,494 rushing yards with 48 rushing touchdowns in four years at Hooker. There was consistency on the sidelines because the majority of the coaching staff at Hooker stayed in place.
Plus, Hooker has Justin Palacios and Keilan Robinson and others don t. Palacio, the junior outside linebacker and running back, is back. Last season, he ran for 1,865 yards and 20 touchdowns; as a rookie, he ran for 1,748 yards and 21 scores. In football, basketball, and track, Keilan Robinson is among the state’s best multisport athletes. Last season, he caught 29 passes for 769 yards and 12 touchdowns. He replaced Kleat Martens as quarterback late in the game. His running total was 124 yards and four touchdowns, and his passing total was 314 yards and four touchdowns. He comes into the season ready to play quarterback this year. He now stands 6 3 and contributes at QB, WR, and FS.
Other important Hooker players include Jr. QB/TE/RB/DE Gunnar Martens, Sr. WR/SS Gannon Hill, and Sr. MLB/OL Hunter Ray.
Hooker has 38 out for football at the Class A division one school. On both sides of the ball, they have three starters back. In football, Hooker has seven seniors, and the majority of the team is made up of juniors and sophomores.
During Sportsguys Monday morning, Hooker was mentioned. Hooker travels for three of their final four games, while they play five of their first six games in Texas County.
