Seward Women’s Soccer Picked Last

Colby, Kansas.The Seward County women s soccer team has been picked to finish eighth in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 1 Women s Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll.

After a 2-12-6 overall record and a 1-10-5 conference record in 2024, the Saints were predicted to finish last in the league in 2025. With a road defeat to nationally rated Butler, Seward’s season came to an end in the Region 6 Tournament Quarterfinals.

The league was predicted to be won by Cowley, with Hutchinson and Butler rounding out the top three.

The 2025 season will mark the beginning of a new era for Seward as head coach Marcela Bueno, who was hired on March 6th, 2025, starts her first season as the Saints’ head coach.

When the program begins its third year in 2025, Bueno will be only the second head coach in its history.

Bueno helped Iowa Western finish 16-0-4 and make it to the NJCAA Division 1 National Semifinals during the 2024 season. Before her one year at IWCC, Bueno worked as a graduate assistant at the University of Central Arkansas (NCAA Division 1) in Conway, Arkansas, for two years. She has also been a coach at Central Arkansas Christian High School and Central Baptist College.

Bueno, a native of São Paulo, Brazil, played collegiately at Central Baptist College and Ranger College.

The Saints will conclude their preseason play on Tuesday, August 19th, at 5 p.m., at Tabor, after traveling to Oklahoma Panhandle State on Thursday for an exhibition game at 5 p.m. On Friday, August 22, the Saints travel to Otero for a game at 2:00 p.m. to kick off the regular season.
