LIBERAL, Kan. Trey Burnett has been appointed as the new Associate Athletic Director for Communications by Seward County Community College Athletics.
Burnett will work to promote all 12 Seward sports in his capacity. Among other things, he will be in charge of Seward County Athletics’ live streaming, statistics, game operations, website upkeep, social media, graphic design, press releases, and record keeping.
Burnett was the Director of Sports Information and Operations at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas, for two years before taking the position at Seward. In addition to managing all aspects of game operations for home games, including football, baseball, softball, volleyball, women’s and men’s basketball, and soccer, he was in charge of the Grizzly sports department’s communication efforts, social media, and social media marketing.
Burnett expanded the Grizzlies’ social media following across all platforms while he was at Butler. Instagram followers increased from 6,530 to 8,924; Facebook followers increased from 10,000 to 12,859; and X (Twitter) followers increased from 13,600 to 16,900.
Additionally, Burnett was in charge of redesigning ButlerGrizzlies.com to incorporate Presto Sports 2.0 and update it to a more contemporary interface.
Burnett worked as a graduate assistant for athletics communications at Tarleton State University, an NCAA Division 1 institution in Stephenville, Texas, for almost two years before joining Butler. During his time at Tarleton State, he oversaw women’s basketball, track and field, and soccer in addition to serving as the main social media manager and media liaison for the Texan baseball and volleyball programs. During his time, Burnett grew Tarleton Baseball’s Twitter account (@TarletonBase) from 5,000 followers to over 10,000, a 100% growth rate. For the aforementioned sports, he authored all team-related writing that was posted on TarletonSports.com. Additional responsibilities included taking and editing pictures for social media and websites, as well as spending a lot of time in the Adobe suite making graphics and editing videos, among other things.
Sam Houston State University awarded him a degree in 2022. Burnett worked as a student assistant for sports information at SHSU. In that capacity, he supplied in-game updates to the Bearkat football team, which won the 2020 national championship, as well as the official Bearkat social media profiles for almost every sport. He also assisted with Johnson Coliseum basketball game statistics and the upkeep of gobearkats.com.
Burnett, a native of Lake Jackson, Texas, graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in public relations. In 2023, he graduated from Tarleton State with a Master of Science in Sports Administration.
Burnett lives in Liberal with his fiancée, Kimber Cortemelia, who is the head softball coach for Seward County.
