On Saturday at around 3:54 p.m., a two-vehicle collision happened on US Highway 83 in Finney County, 1.1 miles south of US Highway 50.

Kenneth Poland, 72, of Derby, Kansas, was driving a 2018 Harley Davidson motorbike south on Highway 83 when he pulled over to the shoulder of the road to perform a U-turn. Hope Horinek, 29, of Sublette, was operating a 2006 GMC Sierra when it made a U-turn in a southbound direction. In an effort to avoid a collision, Horinek braked and swerved to the left. On the northbound fog-line, the motorcyclist struck the Sierra. After the impact, the Harley twisted clockwise and flipped onto its driver’s side, landing in the US 83 southbound lane. Before coming to rest facing southeast, the GMC veered to the left off the road and into the East ditch.

Poland was brought to St. Catherine’s Hospital with what appeared to be severe wounds. In the GMC Sierra, Horinek and two young passengers were unharmed.
